Our client is seeking a Patient Financial Services (PFS) Supervisor – Hospital Billing to join a prominent healthcare system in Indianapolis.


The Patient Financial Services (PFS) Supervisor – Hospital Billing is responsible for supervising the daily operations of the hospital billing and accounts receivable follow-up team to ensure timely, accurate, and compliant claims processing and reimbursement. The Patient Financial Services (PFS) Supervisor – Hospital Billing provides leadership, coaching, and operational oversight while driving staff development, process improvement, revenue cycle performance, and operational excellence across the hospital billing function.


The ideal candidate is a hands-on revenue cycle leader with hospital billing experience, a proven ability to develop high-performing teams, and a track record of improving reimbursement outcomes and operational performance. The Patient Financial Services (PFS) Supervisor – Hospital Billing partners closely with Revenue Cycle leadership and cross-functional teams to support organizational goals and deliver exceptional customer service.


This position is primarily remote and based out of Indianapolis, Indiana. Candidates must reside within a reasonable commuting distance and be available to attend in-person meetings, training sessions, and other business-related activities as needed.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise the daily operations of the hospital billing and accounts receivable follow-up team, ensuring accurate, timely, and compliant claims processing, denial management, reimbursement, and overall revenue cycle performance.
  • Lead, coach, mentor, and develop team members through hiring, onboarding, scheduling, training, performance management, and ongoing professional development while fostering a collaborative, accountable, customer-focused work environment.
  • Monitor productivity, quality, accounts receivable performance, and key operational metrics; analyze trends, identify process improvement opportunities, and implement solutions that improve efficiency, compliance, and financial outcomes.
  • Collaborate with Revenue Cycle leadership, Information Technology, Claims Administration, Finance, external billing vendors, and other cross-functional teams to optimize billing processes, resolve operational issues, improve workflows, and enhance reimbursement outcomes.
  • Develop, maintain, and communicate billing policies, procedures, and best practices while ensuring compliance with HIPAA, federal and state regulations, payer requirements, and organizational standards.
  • Prepare and present operational updates, performance metrics, and process improvement initiatives to leadership and staff while supporting ongoing education related to billing regulations, payer requirements, and system enhancements.
  • Complete HR and payroll responsibilities, including attendance management and employee documentation, while serving as a liaison between the billing department and other organizational teams.
  • Demonstrate strong knowledge of hospital and institutional revenue cycle operations, medical billing, reimbursement methodologies, Medicare, Medicaid, commercial insurance, payer requirements, healthcare procedure codes, Uniform Billing (UB) standards, and medical terminology.
  • Utilize strong analytical, organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills to manage multiple priorities, interpret operational data, and drive continuous improvement in a fast-paced environment.
  • Maintain proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, Word, and PowerPoint, while utilizing Epic or other hospital patient accounting systems and related healthcare technology platforms.


Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum of three (3) years of medical billing experience.
  • Previous experience billing Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial insurance.
  • Demonstrated experience leading or supervising a medical billing or revenue cycle team.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous supervisory experience managing a team of eight (8) or more employees.
  • Hospital billing experience; physician and/or durable medical equipment (DME) billing experience is a plus.
  • Medical Billing and Coding certification.
  • Experience with Epic or other hospital patient accounting systems is preferred.
