Our client is seeking a Manager, Patient Financial Services – Hospital Billing to join a prominent healthcare system in Indianapolis.
The Manager, Patient Financial Services – Hospital Billing is responsible for leading hospital billing and accounts receivable follow-up operations to ensure timely, accurate, and compliant claim submission, reimbursement, overall revenue cycle performance, and exceptional customer service. The Manager, Patient Financial Services – Hospital Billing oversees billing operations, denial management, vendor relationships, performance metrics, and staff development while partnering with key internal departments to optimize revenue cycle outcomes and drive operational excellence.
This position offers a hybrid work arrangement. Candidates must reside within a reasonable commuting distance of Indianapolis and be available to attend onsite meetings, leadership activities, training sessions, and other business-related events as needed.

Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the daily operations of the hospital billing and accounts receivable follow-up team by establishing performance expectations, promoting accountability, and ensuring accurate, timely, and compliant claims submission, reimbursement, and resolution.
- Oversee accounts receivable performance, denial management, appeals, and cash flow while developing action plans to improve revenue cycle performance and maximize reimbursement.
- Monitor and analyze key performance indicators (KPIs), productivity, quality metrics, denial trends, and financial outcomes; provide reporting and recommendations to leadership.
- Lead, coach, mentor, and develop team members through performance management, hiring, onboarding, training, and professional development while fostering a collaborative, accountable, and customer-focused culture that emphasizes continuous improvement and operational excellence.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, HIPAA, and payer regulations by developing and maintaining billing policies, procedures, and operational standards in partnership with Compliance and Revenue Cycle leadership.
- Serve as the primary operational contact for payer audits, billing vendors, and third-party partners while ensuring effective vendor performance and regulatory compliance.
- Partner with Information Technology and Revenue Cycle leadership to optimize billing applications, claims management systems, denial management tools, Epic Revenue Cycle workflows, and operational efficiency.
- Partner with Credentialing, Managed Care, Health Information Management (HIM), Patient Access, Finance, Compliance, and other departments to resolve billing and accounts receivable issues, improve workflows, and support organizational revenue cycle initiatives.
- Identify operational risks and opportunities for process improvement, implementing strategic initiatives that enhance quality, efficiency, compliance, and financial performance.
- Develop and coordinate ongoing staff education on billing regulations, payer requirements, system updates, and industry best practices to ensure continued competency and compliance.
- Ensure the delivery of exceptional customer service while supporting organizational revenue cycle and patient financial services objectives.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, Management, Finance, or a related field.
- Eight (8) years of progressive Revenue Cycle operations experience may be considered in lieu of a bachelor's degree.
- Five (5) or more years of progressive leadership experience within Hospital Patient Financial Services, Hospital Billing, or Revenue Cycle operations.
- Demonstrated experience managing hospital billing operations, accounts receivable follow-up, denials, appeals, and reimbursement processes.
- Experience leading teams and driving operational improvements in a healthcare environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with Epic Revenue Cycle applications, including Hospital Billing (HB).
- Experience working with third-party billing vendors.
- Knowledge of hospital, physician, and mental health billing and reimbursement.
- Experience with contract management and denial management software.
